Three die on road

TAXILA, Sept 5:  Three members of a family including a woman died in a road accident here on Hazara road in limits of Hassanabdal police station on Monday.

Police sources said that Noman Ahmed, 18, his aunt Shamim Akhter, 38, and her daughter Farrah Sanam, 12, were going on motorcycle (HRB-7805) after visiting Baba Wali Qandhari hill when a speeding Suzuki car hit them. The injured were taken to THQ hospital Hassanabdal where they died of injuries.

According to police, the victims belonged to same family. Police registered a case against unknown car driver and investigating. — Correspondent

Five robbers held

ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the capital police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and arrested its five members, which led to the recovery of Rs1 million from their possession.

A police spokesman said the gang was involved in snatching an oil tanker from I.J. Principal Road and selling the oil for Rs1 million. The police obtained physical remand of the accused from a court of law.

The culprits took out the oil and left the tanker in Attock. On the complaint of the tanker owner Mohammad Khan, a case was registered with the Sabzi Mandi police.

After the Sabzi Mandi police failed to trace the culprits, the case was transferred to the CIA.— Staff Reporter

Transferred

ATTOCK, Sept 5:   The Punjab government has transferred district officer (DO), Population welfare, Adnan Ashraf to Jhehlum district, it has been learnt.

The sources said that Mr Asharf had been transferred after over six years service period as he had been appointed in Attock in 2005. Babar Zaheer has assumed charge as new DO, Population welfare, of the Attock district. — Correspondent

Two cops drown

CHAKWAL, Sept 5: Two personnel of Military Intelligence drowned here on Monday, sources told Dawn.

Asim Mehmood and Saqib Anwar, both residents of Naka Kahoot village in tehsil Talagang, were on leave. On Monday theywent to take bath in Walana Dam where they drowned.

Their bodies were fished out after tough efforts by  the villagers. Both friends were buried in their native village where moving scenes were witnessed when two coffins were brought out for funeral. —Correspondent

Trader robbed of Rs3m

RAWALPINDI, Sept 5: A local trader was robbed of Rs3 million in cash and jewellery valuing about Rs2 million after three armed men gained their entry into his house in Haripura mohallah (Banni police area) in broad daylight on Tuesday, police and victims said.

The robbery victim, Sheikh Tariq Mehmood, in his complaint said three armed men entered his house in his absence and held his family hostage. They searched the house and broke the lockers.

“They did not harm anybody from the family, however, they collected Rs3 million lying in the house and gold weighing 34 tolas and left the house after locking the inmates in a room,” the police investigating officer said.

The police reached the crime scene and seized CCTV footage of the robbery. The footage was captured by the CCTV camera installed at the neighboring house.— Staff Reporter

Anti-dengue spray continues

RAWALPINDI, Sept 5: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) is spraying cantonment areas to prevent spread of dengue virus and the campaign will be completed by the end of current week.

Additional Chief Executive Officer RCB Mohammad Kamran Towfeeq said they had also launched a major cleanliness campaign in August under which all areas of the cantonment were cleaned.

Several areas, including Guwalmandi, Saddar, Chor and Kashmir Road, have been covered while the remaining areas are being sprayed, he added.

To a question, he said anti-dengue spray in cantonment areas was started on August 25 and arrangements were also being made in Cantonment Hospital to cope with any situation. The official said 500 sanitary workers with 20 supervisors and sixsanitary inspectors had been given the task.He urged the people to dump garbage at the specific points so that it could be removed properly.

He said chief sanitary inspector Hassan Kamal was transferred to Peshawar due to his unsatisfactory performance and Sabir Saleem from Lahore Cantonment Board has been posted in his place. —APP

Water shortage hits Bhara Kahu

ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: Residents of Bhara Kahu have to suffer a lot due to water shortage even during Eid days.

Talking to this news agency here on Monday, the residents said that 60 per cent population of the area is deprived of facility of water supply scheme.

They said that water was being supplied only twice a week and during Eid holidays, they did not get even for those two days. — Online
