Journalist hurt in attack on private TV team

PESHAWAR, Aug 22: A journalist was injured when unidentified persons attacked the team of a private TV channel here on Monday afternoon, police said.

They said that unidentified persons attacked and manhandled the AVT Khyber News team and critically injured its Bureau Chief Hazrat Khan Mohmand.

The team comprising AVT Khyber Controller News Syed Waqas Shah, Bureau Chief Hazrat Khan Mohmand, Resident Editor of Daily Khyber Nisar Khan and Manager Technical Gulsher was attacked near Nishar Hall by three armed persons, riding a motorcycle, when they were coming back after enquiring about the health of injured Education Minister Sardar Hussain Babak at Lady Reading Hospital.

The accused first manhandled the newsmen and later opened fire at them. They hit Hazrat Khan with stones and bricks. He was immediately rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.

The doctors at the hospital said the condition of the injured journalist was stable and he was out of danger.

The office bearers of various unions of journalists condemned the attack and said they would never cow down to such cowardly tactics. The Khyber Union of Journalist (KhJU) has announced to hold a protest demonstration to condemn the attack. The protest demonstration will be held on Tuesday at 12pm in front of Peshawar Press Club.—APP
