PESHAWAR, Aug 9: An anti terrorism court here on Tuesday acquitted a suspected militant charged with blowing up two schools in Badhber area last year.

The court presided over by Anwer Ali Khan observed that the prosecution could not prove its case against the accused, Afzal Khan, and the evidence on record could not connect him with the offence.

The two schools -- Government Girls Middle School Mashokhel and Government Primary School Mera Sheikhan -- were damaged on the night of Oct 8, 2010, when unidentified miscreants exploded improvised explosive devices there.

Later, the police arrested Afzal Khan, who is a resident of Sulemankhel area in Badhber. The case was registered at Police Station Badhber under the Anti Terrorism Act and Explosive Substance Act.

Advocates Sahibzada Riazatul Haq and Noor Rahim appeared for the accused and contended that he was falsely implicated in the case. They stated that the prosecution could not produce any evidence against the accused and merely on basis ofallegations he could not be punished.

They added that no recovery was made from him and there was no eyewitness who had deposed against him.
