Man abducted from Attock found dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Aug 9: Body of a man kidnapped for ransom from Jatyal, Attock, on July 28 was found in agriculture fields in Sufaid Wari area of Peshtakhara here on Tuesday, police said.

An official of Peshtakhara police station said that the victim was identified as Safdar (40) of Jatyal, Attock. Referring to a statement of his relatives, the official said that the victim was kidnapped on July 28 by unidentified kidnappers, who later demanded Rs5 million as ransom for his release.

“Safdar's family was busy in negotiations with the kidnappers to reduce the ransom money, as they could not pay such a huge amount,” he said. The official said that the body had been shifted to local mortuary from where his relatives shifted it to Attock. He said that a murder case had been registered against the unidentified accused. He said that Safdar was stated to be relative of a judicial officer.

In other incidents, five people, including two women, were killed in Peshawar district on Tuesday, police said.

In the first incident, a teenage girl Haleema Bibi was killed in mysterious conditions inside a room of her house at Tehkal. Her brother Janat Gul told police that after having her Sehri at about 3am she went inside her room and in the meantime they heard a fire shot.

“As we opened the room we saw her lying in a pool of blood,” he stated and added that Haleema was shifted in critical condition to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, but she did not survive.

The official said that they had started investigation into the case to ascertain the cause of her death. He said that the FIR would be registered later.

In another case, three people, including Zartaja, Gul Rehman and Israr, were killed over a minor issue at Bahadur Kalay in the limits of Bala Mani police station.

An official said that Zartaja and Israr belonged to a family and Gul Rehman was their opponent, who had exchanged hot words over digging of a pathway for laying a gas pipeline. Police have registered a murder case against Amjad, Rahat and Asad.

Meanwhile, a decomposed body of an unidentified young man was found near Taji Kalay in the limits of Faqirabad police station. An official said that the body seemed to have been thrown in the agriculture fields about five days ago. “We have shifted it to the local mortuary for further investigation,” he said.
