Man `shot dead` by girlfriend

ISLAMABAD, Aug 6: A 20-year-old man was 'shot dead' by his girlfriend in capital's rural area on Saturday, police said.

The police arrested the alleged killer but had to take shelter in her house in Chara village when over 100 villagers intercepted them, demanding that the accused be handed over to them.

Heavy contingent of Nilor police reached the village to provide security to the policemen.

The police said the girl - ZB - and MB, a student of intermediate class, were in love and wanted to marry but their families opposed their decision.

On Saturday evening, they decided to commit suicide and met in an abandoned house owned by the man's family.

It was decided that first ZB would shoot MB and later she would kill herself. However, they engaged in a quarrel during which the girl allegedly shot him in the chest with a 30-bore pistol, killing him on the spot.

The police reached the house and found it surrounded by dozens of villagers.

They told the police that the girl was inside and threatening to kill those trying to enter the house.

The police, however, arrested the girl and shifted her to the police station. The body was also sent to hospital for legal process.

The police team, including the SHO Tanvir Abbasi, while shifting the accused to the police station was intercepted by the family members and relatives of the victim, demanding her custody.

The police team along with the accused took shelter in the house which was fired upon by the mob.

The policemen fired warning shots from the roof of the house and later dispersed the villagers.
