Man killed on road

ISLAMABAD, July 29: A pedestrian was killed when a speeding car hit him on Islamabad Highway here on Friday, police said.

Mohammad Kashif, 22, suffered multiple injuries when a car driven by a woman – SB – hit him while he was crossing Islamabad Highway at Dhoke Kala Khan.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Some people, who witnessed the accident, lost their temper and pulled the woman out of the car and manhandled her.

On getting information, the police reached the spot and rescued the woman. She was later shifted to Shahzad Town police station. The victim resided with his uncle at Dhoke Kala Khan and worked in G-8/4.— Staff Reporter

CHAKWAL, July 29: The court of additional district and sessions judge sentenced a murderer to death here on Friday. Asif Mehmood, resident of Panjain village axed Allahdad to death over a land dispute on October 13, 2010.

After finding the allegations true Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Asghar Khan sentenced Mohammad Asif to death.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on the culprit.  The convict would have to face six-month extra incarceration for failing to pay the fine. — Correspondent

Bank robbery in capital

ISLAMABAD, July 29: The capital on Friday witnessed another bank robbery in two days in which unarmed robbers looted away Rs500,000, police said.

The police said four persons came to Habib Bank Branch in Soan and went inside the bank without facing any hurdle as two bank guards were inside at the time of their arrival. They overpowered the bank security guards and snatched their weapons.

They held up the bank’s employees and guards at gunpoint and looted cash from the counter. They also tried to loot the bank’s safe. — Staff Reporter

Deported Pakistanis arrive

RAWALPINDI, July 29: As many as 20 Pakistani illegal immigrants deported by Turkish authorities arrived at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Friday.

According to Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) immigration officials, the illegal immigrants arrived on a Turkish Airline’s scheduled flight TK-219.

On arrival, they were taken into custody by the FIA’s anti-human trafficking staff and were shifted to the passport cell for further investigation. A senior official of anti-human trafficking wing said the statements of all the deportees were recorded and the cases were registered against the travel agents who had arranged their journey.— Staff Reporter
