Low-intensity explosion in mosque during prayers

MIRPURKHAS July 29: A low-intensity explosion during Friday prayers in Fateh Juma Masjid in Dholanabad caused a stampede as people started leaving the mosque in panic.

Police found pieces of a bomb wrapped in a plastic bag. Khursheed Memon of bomb disposal squad said that the bomb appeared to be Chinese make and did not have powerful explosives. It appears that miscreants wanted only to create panic.

Police deployed outside said the saboteur had probably entered the mosque before their arrival.

After the blast, people led by leaders of the Sunni Tehreek demonstrated at the Market chowk and burnt tyres on the M.A. Jinnah road. Shops were closed and traffic remained off the road for about an hour.

The Imam of the mosque, Abdul Jabbar Qadri, demanded an inquiry and increased security for the mosque.

A case has been lodged at the Town police against unidentified person for causing disturbance at a religious congregation.
