KARACHI: The three-month long dispute between KESC management and its workers finally came to a decisive end after an intense 48-hour session between the government and KESC management concluded on Tuesday , DawnNews reported.

Following the meeting held at the Governor House, KESC workers announced resumption of operational activities from Wednesday after almost three months of protest and brinkmanship with the management.

The meeting was called by Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad, who had given an assurance to KESC union leaders last week that their problems would be solved by Monday.

During the session between the involved parties, government personalities also spoke to KESC officials in Dubai and France. After consensus was reached, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the involved parties and labourers announced their decision to end their protest.

Details of the agreement

The labourers managed to have three of their top demands accepted by the KESC management.

According to the agreement, out of the 4,500 employees sacked on 19th July, labourers who had not benefited from the voluntary retirement scheme would be reinstated. Moreover, workers who had accepted the voluntary scheme would be paid their respective dues before the start of Ramazan, and no worker would be forced to retire.
