PESHAWAR, July 18: A law enforcer and two robbers were killed and a policeman was injured in an encounter in Chamkani area here on Monday, police said.

Police traded fire with robbers when they looted a trader and snatched his car near Tarnab Farm, an official of Chamkani police station said. He said that Moahammad Anwar, a flour trader, was on way to his village Jhagra in his motorcar when three robbers snatched Rs0.7 million cash and vehicle from him.

“We cordoned off the entry and exit points of the area and chased the motorcar when we were informed about the incident,” he said, adding the robbers opened indiscriminate firing on the police party and killed constable Amanullah, a resident of Pabbi.

He said that another policeman identified as Tajdar, a resident of Takht Bhai, was injured by the robbers.

The SHO of the police station told this correspondent that two robbers were killed in the retaliatory firing while their third accomplice managed to escape.

The killed robbers were identified as Kashkol and Yousaf, both residents of Bajuar Agency, he added.

Police also recovered the snatched motorcar and cash amount besides a Kalashnikov and two 30 bore pistols from the possession of robbers, the SHO said. He added that the encounter continued for three hours near Akbarpura area.

Both the policemen were ex servicemen. The funeral prayers for the killed policeman were offered at Malik Saad Khan Police Lines. The injured police constable was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, suspected militants attacked a tribesman and tried to kidnap him near a private hospital here on Monday morning.

An official of Paharipura police station said that the tribesman identified as Naseem Abbas was on way to his residence from Hamza Surgical Hospital after enquiring after the health of his mother when militants attacked him.

The mother of the tribesman was shifted to Peshawar for treatment as she had sustained injuries in a similar attack in Parachinar, Kurram Agency, on June 3.

Mr Abbas said that attackers tried to kidnap him but opened firing on him when they failed to do. He said that his brother had also been kidnapped by militants from the main road in March last. “My brother is still in the custody of militants,” police quoted him as saying.

He said that he was studying in Australia and recently came to Pakistan on leave. He demanded of the government to provide protection to his family.

Meanwhile, Chamkani police have failed to recover their van, which had been snatched by militants during an encounter at Ghaziabad area of Matani on Friday last.

A source said that the area police had made several attempts to recover the vehicle but they failed as militants had taken it to tribal region.
