KARACHI, July 11: A judicial magistrate on Monday raided a police station and found four men apparently held in wrongful confinement.

On a directive of the district and sessions court (west), magistrate Ashfaq Ahmed Nizamani conducted the raid on the SITE-B police station and got Habibullah and Shakeel released on personal bonds. He also ordered the release of two other men detained there, and directed the station house officer to appear in court on Tuesday.

Court sources said that the police officials failed to produce any FIR or other documents concerning their detention at the police station.

The magistrate would submit his report on the raid in the court on Tuesday.

Mohammad Zakir through his counsel had earlier filed a habeas corpus application in the court under Section 491 of CrPC stating that the police picked up his brothers, Habibullah and Shakeel, on July 9 from their house. He alleged that the police were demanding money for their release.

The applicant stated that his brothers were unlawfully detained, and prayed to the court for their release.

After a preliminary hearing, the district and sessions judge directed the magistrate to conduct a raid on the information provided by the applicant and recover the victims if found in wrongful confinement.

Meanwhile, a judicial magistrate on Monday issued notices to fresh milk sellers' representatives for overcharging.

The magistrate, Afzal Roshan, issued notices to the Karachi Dairy Farmers Association president, Haji Akhtar, and a leader of the fresh milk retailers organisation, Mohammad Nisar, through the SHO of the Sukkhan police station for July 15.

The Karachi DCO had filed a complaint in the sessions court that fresh milk was selling at a higher rate against the official rate of Rs60 per litre.—Staff Reporter
