FC man shot dead

CHARSADDA, July 9: Unidentified bandits shot dead an FC official and took away his car in the Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district on Saturday.

The victim, Farooq Shah, who was an FC instructor, was going home in his car when the bandits intercepted him and tried to snatch the car. He was shot dead on resistance. The bandits took away the car. The police registered the case and started investigation.—Correspondent

Man killed on road

MARDAN, July 9: One person was killed and four others received multiple wounds when a truck and a passenger coach collided head-on on the Mardan-Swabi road on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said a truck (475-PKZ) collided with a passenger coach (4817-P), killing 60-year-old Shams Tabrez and injuring four others. The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital where their condition was stable. The drivers of the truck and the coach escaped the area. The Par Hoti police impounded the vehicles and started investigation.

Meanwhile, a man, identified as Asfandyar, committed suicide in the Ishaqabad area on Charsadda road on Saturday.

The police quoted Jan Khan, cousin of the victim, as saying Asfandyar committed suicide under influence of alcohol.—Correspondent

Smugglers arrested

PESHAWAR, July 9: The city police arrested three drug smugglers during operation in adjoining areas of the capital city on Saturday, police said.

A raiding party headed by SSP operations Ijaz Ahmed Khan and SP Rural Abdul Kalam Khan during an operation raids the suburban areas of the provincial capital stopped a suspected truck bearing registration no E1578. The police recovered 62kg hashish and one kg opium from the secret cavities of the vehicle and arrested Khaista Rehman and Yaseen.—APP

Roads inaugurated

KOHAT, July 9: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Housing Amjid Afridi on Saturday inaugurated a road and causeway built with a cost of Rs13.8 million in Bilitang town.

While speaking on the occasion Amjid Afridi called on the people to send honest people to the parliament who wanted to serve the masses.

He inaugurated the five-kilometer Bhora Garhi-Kharmatu road constructed at Rs13 million and 1,100 feet of Kot Sharif road on which Rs800,000 had been spent. The tehsil municipal officer, Kohat, Mohammad Shoeb, also accompanied him. The minister also announced Rs1 million for the Bilitang-Kot causeway and said that 84 new electricity poles in Kot village had been installed while poles for 103 other villages had already been provided.—Correspondent

Section 144

TIMERGARA, July 9: District Coordination Officer Mahmood Aslam Wazir on Saturday imposed section 144 banning transportation of fertilizers from Lower Dir to other districts.

Talking to journalists, he said the ban would remain imposed for an indefinite period as according to him the fertilizers were being used in making explosive materials.—Correspondent

SSC exams

PESHAWAR, July 9: The Fazaia Inter-College, Shaheen Camp, Peshawar, has maintained its high standard of achievement in the examination of secondary school certificate of the federal board of education.

According to a press release issued on Saturday, 20 of 59 students of the college, who appeared in the SSC part-II examination, achieved A plus grade and 24 obtained A grade, while 13 students got over 900 marks.

Hamza Najeeb topped with 983 marks, followed by Rizwan Haider with 978 marks and Aleena Safdar with 963 marks. Besides, Khurram Sheraz and Maham Shah obtained 962 marks each, Haseeb-ur-Rehman 950 marks, Asad Wali 947 marks and Mohammad Faisal got 945 marks. The college has produced 100 per cent result with GPA of 5.05. The college also achieved second position among the chain of 23 Fazaia schools and colleges of the country.—Bureau Report
