PPP Punjab urges Zardari to take action against Qureshi

LAHORE: The Parliamentary members of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Punjab on Thursday requested Co-chairman of party and President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari to take disciplinary action against Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former foreign minister, after suspending his basic membership of the party.

Raja Riaz Ahmad, Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly, while briefing newsmen after an urgent meeting of the parliamentary party meeting held here, said a resolution was passed in the meeting against Shah Mahmood Qureshi on holding a meeting with PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif without the permission of party leadership.

Raja Riaz said Qureshi’s criticism of party’s leadership was perplexing as he never had any reservation from the party when he was a minister.

He said that Qureshi must keep in his mind the political career of Ghulam Mustafa Khar and Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi as one who left the PPP, never succeeded in maintaining their position in the national politics.

He said that Nawaz Sharif was criticising the PPP for its democratic alliance with the PML-Q but what would he say about welcoming the turncoats of other political parties.

Major Zulfiqar Gondal, PPP Parliamentary Leader in Punjab Assembly, Shaukat Basra, Deputy Parliamentary Leader and Farooq Yousuf Ghurki, former provincial minister, were also present.
