Missing student’s body found

ATTOCK, July 4: Body of a teenaged student, who went missing on Friday, was found floating in Haro River.

As per reports, a Muhammad Altaf, 13, resident of Peoples colony went on outing along with some friends, but did not return home, while his friends also expressed their complete ignorance about his whereabouts.

However on Sunday evening, his body was found in Haro River. The local police recovered the body and handed it over to the relatives after fulfilling legal formalities.

Surprisingly, when the friends of the deceased were again interrogated, they disclosed that they all went to Haro river on Friday, where Mohammad Altaf drowned while swimming. They said they did not disclose the incident for fear. —Correspondent

279 gangs busted

ISLAMABAD, July 4: The capital police have busted 279 gangs involved in heinous crimes and arrested 945 criminals this year.

A police spokesman on Monday said that a report, presented to Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan, had revealed that 10 gangs involved in blind murder cases were traced which led to the arrest of their 23 members. Three gangs involved in kidnap for ransom were also busted and nine kidnappers were apprehended.

The report said Islamabad police had traced 26 gangs involved in immoral activities and arrested 193 persons. Five persons involved in rape were also arrested.

Similarly, 15 gangs involved in robberies, 35 in snatching valuables at gun point, 25 in burglaries, 88 in theft, 19 in car theft, seven gangs of selling vehicles after tempering them were also busted during the year. —Staff Reporter

College bus driver beaten

MUZAFFARABAD, July 4: Police are hunting for the occupants of a private car which intercepted a college bus and roughed up its driver, leading to a traffic jam for several hours, on the outskirts of Rawalakot on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, two persons said to be under the influence of alcohol, intercepted the bus of Government Postgraduate College, Kharrick, in Khaigalla where it had gone to drop some students.

The accused indulged in an altercation with the driver whom they also beat up.

Traffic was restored after the police arrived on the scene on a phone call made by the college principal. However, the accused managed to flee. — Staff Correspondent
