`Kidnapper` escapes police

PESHAWAR, June 30: An alleged kidnapper of a flour mills manager escaped from the Chamkani police station in the company of a retired police officer on Wednesday night after a kidnapping case was registered against him.

An official of Chamkani police station said that following a complaint the police raided the farmhouse of the accused Riazul Karim, son of Gul Karim, and took him into custody. He said that the accused was district food controller, Azakhel, and owner of the Islamia Flour Mills and wanted the kidnap victim to work at his mill.

He said that when FIR was being registered against the food controller a retired police officer managed to whisk him away from the police station.

When contacted, the concerned SHO said that the accused would be arrested after taking permission from the food department as he was a grade-18 officer.

DSP Shakir Bangash, who had led the raiding party, did not attend calls on his cell phone.

When contacted, the kidnap victim, Subhan Gul, said that he was manager at another flour mills, but the food controller was forcing him to resign from his job and work at his flour mills and on his refusal he was kidnapped and maltreated.
