SP declared accused in motors scam

LAHORE, June 22: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Punjab, has declared superintendent of police (SP) Mansoorul Haq Rana a principal accused in the Canal Motors scandal and sought inquiry report from the Punjab Board of Revenue.

According to a letter written to Board of Revenue consolidation officer Obaid Rabbani Qureshi on June 10, 2011, Punjab NAB Director Muhammad Irshadul Haq stated that bureau was conducting investigation into charges against Rana Qaiser Nazir, owner of Canal Motors, and others. During the course of investigation, Mr Rana emerged one of the principal accused.

Also, NAB authorities in Islamabad, in another letter written to the Punjab home secretary as well as the inspector general, have sought security for two inquiry officers associated with the Canal Motors scam. In a letter NAB Director General Colonel Khursheed Ahmad (retired) on May 29, 2001, stated SP Rana along with his accomplices was harassing NAB inquiry officers and their families. He threatened Assistant Director Waqas Ahmad and Investigation Officer Allah Rakha and their families.—Staff Reporter
