Property dispute claims life

RAWALPINDI, June 22: A person gunned down his elder brother over a property dispute in the limit of Sadar Barooni police station on Wednesday, police said.

The sources said that Mohammad Taj, 60, went to the home of his younger brother in Dhoke Kuma where his two other brothers were residing with their families.

He had some conversation with his younger brother Mohammad Banaris over the long-standing property issue.

The conversation after a while turned violent and both the brothers exchanged hot words. In fury, Mohammad Banaris pulled out his pistol and shot injured his elder brother who was removed to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigating officer told Dawn that Mansab Dad, father of the victim had eight sons and three of them were residing in their ancestral home in Dhoke Kuma.

He said Muhammad Banaris had a property dispute with his elder brother Mohammad Taj and they had not been on speaking terms for a long time.

Police said though the victim could not record his statement before dying, he had given a few worded statement before the police shortly after he was brought to the police Chowki after the incident.

The IO quoted the victim as saying: “My brother has fired at me”.

The alleged killer escaped from the scene. However a police party raided his house but to no avail, the investigating officer said.
