CJ refuses to hear plea of NICL scam suspect

LAHORE, June 21: The Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice on Tuesday refused to hear for personal reasons a petition of former minister for defence, Maj Habibullah Warraich (retired), involved in NICL scam, seeking removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL).

Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry directed the registrar office to fix the petition before any other judge.

Warraich had requested the court to direct the government to remove his name from the ECL as he wanted to go aboard along with his wife for medical treatment. Warraich had already been allowed bail in the NICL scam by the LHC.

Notices: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the boards of governors of the State Bank of Pakistan and the Bank of Punjab (BoP) on a writ petition challenging appointment of the BoP president and chief executive officer (CEO) and his deputy.

Advocate Shahid Shakeel petitioned that rules and regulations had been ignored while appointing BoP president and CEO Naeemuddin Khan and deputy CEO Khalid Siddique Tirmazi.

The petitioner questioned the veracity of foreign degrees possessed by the respondents and said they were not eligible for their appointment.

Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh sought replies within two weeks from the respondents. — Staff Reporter
