Movie: RAMONA AND BEEZUS

Ramona Quimby is just like any other regular third grade kid. She has to go through various issues regarding her academics; she hardly ever impresses the teachers and have tough competition with her straight ‘A’ scoring, perfect-at-everything elder sister. She loves having fun with her best friend Howie.

The only problem she has is her runaway imagination which sometimes gets so vibrant that takes her away from the reality. Also, she has a knack of getting into trouble and creating a fair amount of chaos while trying to help others and doing good deeds.

Still life was going nicely for Ramona until one fine day, it turns into a nightmare when she and her elder sister Beatrice (Beezus) hear that their father has lost his job and they are going to lose their house soon. Feeling the doom looming right around the corner, Ramona embarks upon the venture to raise money for the house herself. Naturally, it results in her garnering more trouble than she bargained for. One by one her schemes and plans crumble but nothing dampens her high spirits for long until she upsets Beezus very badly.

Ramona and Beezus marks the big screen debut of both Selena Gomez as Beezus and Joey King as Ramona. Gomez looks perfect as Beezus, however, it is Joey King who amazes us with a natural, brilliant performance that makes the movie funny and enjoyable from the beginning to the end. Based on a popular book series of the same name by Beverly Cleary, this movie is fun and intense at the same time. — Zahra Hassan
