Govt transfers DG FIA to head counterterrorism authority

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday issued directives to transfer Malik Mohammad Iqbal from the position of Director-General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), however, no one has so far been appointed to head the agency, DawnNews reported.

Moreover, Iqbal has now been appointed as the head of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta).

Iqbal had recently been indicted of contempt of court for interfering in judicial affairs by writing a letter to the interior ministry which resulted in the transfer of an officer who was investigating the multi-billion-rupee scam in the National Insurance Company (NICL).

Also, in a related development, the previous head of the Nacta, Waseem Kausar, has been appointed the new chief of the National Police Bureau. — DawnNews
