35 encroachers fined

RAWALPINDI, June 9: As many as 35 shopkeepers were imposed fine of Rs35,000 for encroachments by the Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Thursday.

The RTMA spokesman said that the civic body staff visited Raja Bazaar, Liaquat Road, Benazir Bhutto Road, Gunjmandi, Jamia Masjid Road, Commercial Market and Sadiqabad and imposed fines on shopkeepers who had displayed their goods on the footpaths.

He said that the RTMA staff seized the goods which they had displayed on footpaths. He said that the seized goods were shifted to RTMA stores and it would be auctioned as per the directives of the administrator.

He said that Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa asked the building department to present him report of illegal buildings in the city. He said that the administrator received many complaints that the illegal constructions in the city were on the rise in the city.

He said that the administrator also visited different areas and pointed out illegal construction. He said that the adm-inistrator also directed his staff to receive building plan applications to discourage corruption in the building department.

He said that the building plan applications for the approval from RTMA would be submitted to the administrator and he would send it to the concern official for survey and other departmental requirements.—A Reporter
