A sterling performance by Qawwali maestro

ISLAMABAD, June 6: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has taken music to a whole new level. Everybody agreed on Sunday when the Qawwali maestro gave a sterling performance at a concert arranged by Miradore Productions at a local hotel.

After a rather long wait, Rahat Fateh came on stage and enthralled the audience with the famous hamd , “Allah Hu”, which revived the crowd that was getting restless. After another Qawwali, he delighted the audience with his Indian songs, including “Aaj Din Chadeya”, “Surili Akhiyon Wale”, “O Re Piya”, “Bol Na Halke Halke”, “Sab Rishte Naate”, “Main Jahan Rahoon”, “Dil Tou Baccha Hai Ji” and others.

The audience clapped and sang along as he performed his famous tracks. The old people among the audience seemed to be enjoying it just as much as the youngsters were.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed a Qawwali, originally by late Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, “Tumhe Dillagi Bhool Jani Paray Gi”. The applause made it obvious that everyone was having the time of their life.

Rahat also went on to perform “Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai”, again by Ustaad Nusrat. As it got an amazing response from the crowd, Rahat continued to sing it for 20 minutes.

The concert was closed by two of the most awaited performances of the night. “Tere Mast Mast Do Nain”, the track that won Rahat three awards last year, was one of them.

It was followed by “Mast Kaladar”, a Qawwali that needs no introduction. It also marked the end of the mesmerising concert attended by around 800 people.

Tepu Malik of Miradore Productions said it was an honour to host the concert. But he added that the event would not have been possible without the help of volunteers and supporters.

Abbiah Kalim, a volunteer, said it was a pleasure to work with a team that has a reputation of hosting the best events in Islamabad. “All the hard work paid off when we saw the audience enjoying the evening. The realisation that we've given them a night they will never forget is the best feeling.”
