TIMERGARA, May 31: Lower Dir District and Sessions Judge Tariq Yousafzai on Tuesday remanded six activists of the People's Students Federation (PSF) into police custody, court sources told this correspondent.

They said that the activists of PSF, Dir, were on bail before arrest till May 31 in a case of setting office of the college principal on fire.

On Tuesday, the court heard counsels for both the sides and remanded six of the accused PSF workers into police custody while rejecting their plea for extension in bail.

The student activists included Fazal Hussain, Suhail, Saeed Khan, Amjad, Najeebullah and Shakeel.

The Balambat Police on May 12 had charged the PSF leaders and workers with setting office of the principal on fire, causing disturbance in the post graduate college, Timergara, and smashing windowpanes of its gates.

The student organisation was opposing the administration to remove wall chalking in and around the college.

Police on the report of college administration had taken about 20 PSF workers into custody.

TEACHERS DEMAND: The All Primary Teachers Association (APTA), Lower Dir, during its meeting here on Tuesday demanded of the provincial government and director of the elementary and secondary education to withdraw the condition of passing test for appointment and promotion of teachers.

The meeting was chaired by APTA provincial general secretary Badshah Mehmood, said a press release.

It also demanded of the government to raise salaries of all government employees in line with the increase in prices of essential commodities.

LABOURER INJURED: A 26-year-old labourer, Saeed Khan, was injured when his hand got stuck in a wheat thrasher machine while working in the Bajauro village of Talash, residents and hospital sources said.

They said Mr Khan was taken to the district headquarter hospital, Timergara, in critical condition. However, doctors referred him to Peshawar.
