Militants held, TTP man’s body found

KOHAT, May 30: Nine suspected terrorists were arrested in Darra Adamkhel and Hangu district and a bullet-riddled body of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan member was found in adjoining tribal area of Kohat while an alleged militant commander surrendered to Lakki Marwat police on Monday.

The security forces made the arrests during search operations in Darra Adamkhel and Hangu in connection with bomb blasts.

Officials said that two terrorists, Mahoor and Sher Mohammad, residents of Khyber Agency, were taken into custody along with explosives in Darra Adamkhel and moved to an unknown place for interrogation.

Later, gunship helicopters targeted the hideouts of militants in Jammu area of FR Kohat and Bazidkhel town. The government has evacuated the Jammu area for conducting an operation against militants, who have been firing rockets at the town from mountains for several months.

However, after the establishment of two checkposts in the area a handful of tribesmen had returned to their homes, saying they could not afford expenses of staying in hotels and rented houses in Kohat. The government has not set up any camp for providing shelter and food to them since last month.

In Hangu district, the frontier constabulary and elite police conducted a search operation in Shaoowam village and arrested seven terrorists, who were carrying illegal weapons.

The search operation is continuing in the region following the Thursday’s suicide blast at a police checkpoint, which left 36 people dead. The seizure included two Kalashnikovs, four kalakovs, three shot guns and two rifles.

Cases have been registered against the accused with concerned police stations.

The officials said that the tribesmen found the body of banned TTP man from Akhorwal area in Darra Adamkhel. The deceased was identified as Naeem Khan, resident of Ali Baz Kalay and an active TTP member. His body was handed over to his relatives for burial.

LAKKI MARWAT: An alleged militant commander surrendered to local police here on Monday.

An official said that commander Azizullah of Dhoda village, wanted in several cases, had surrendered in Lakki Marwat police station after spending two years in hiding.

Meanwhile, police have arrested eleven outlaws during a search operation in different localities of the district, including Multan Manjiwala, Landa Ahmadkhel, Titterkhel, Sara Darga, Aagri Khanzadkhel and Pezu.
