Three burnt to death

MUZAFFARABAD, May 29: A woman and her two young children were burnt to death as their prefabricated shelter caught fire on Saturday night, police said.

Shahnaz and her children Kainaat Farid, student of class 9, and Hasnain Farid, student of class 3, were burnt to death when fire broke out in their shelter in Shawai Nullah on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad. Shahnaz was divorced by her husband, Farid, some three months ago.

The charred bodies were recovered by the residents of the area in the presence of SHO Saddar police station Rizwan Dar on Sunday morning. Later, the victims were buried in a local graveyard.—Staff Correspondent

Love marriage ends in tragedy

ATTOCK, May 29: A man committed suicide after his parents-in-law forced him to divorce his newly-wed wife.

Sajjid Mehmood of Bhindar village in Jand had got court marriage with a girl a few months back.

However, the girl’s parents with the support of some influential people pressured Mr Sajid to divorce his wife, police said.

Later, they succeeded in getting forced divorce from Mr Sajid, causing great disappointment to him.

On Saturday evening, Sajid took out his bike and reached the railway line on Attock-Mari Indus section. As soon as the train approached, he jumped on the track and committed suicide. —Correspondent

Transvestite seeks protection

TAXILA, May 29: A local transvestite has requested the regional police officer and other higher authorities to protect him from some influential persons who, he alleged, had abused and tortured him in a drunken frenzy.

Nasir alias Khushi told journalists here on Sunday that the police personnel he approached were not ready to register his complaint against the accused.

He appealed to the RPO to direct the Wah Cantonment police to register a case against the accused.

He said Sohail alias Billa engaged him for a dance performance at a birthday party in a house. There, he charged, Sohail with two friends, all drunk, raped him and burnt his body with cigarette butts and electric shocks for sadistic pleasure.

His body still bears the torture marks, he said alleging that the Wah Cantonment police did not register his complaint against them.

Khushi said the men he accused were threatening him with dire consequences if he got a case registered against them. — Correspondent

Student goes missing

ATTOCK, May 29: A first-year student went missing while a man was kidnapped here, police said on Sunday.

Khan Afsar of Hameed village reported to the City police that his son Mohammad Noman went to appear in his exam on May 26 but did not return.

The police have started searching for the missing student.

In another incident, Rogan Samuel, of Darulsalam Colony, complained to the Saddar police that his brother Robin Masih was coming to Attock from Lahore in a car when he was kidnapped by eight persons from near Haro toll plaza on Saturday evening. — Correspondent
