KARACHI, May 28: The inaugural IC Talent Series ranking tennis championship commenced with the qualifiers taking place simultaneously at Union Club and Al Hamra courts on Saturday.

According to the organisers, the qualifying rounds are being played in men’s singles, juniors’ under-17 singles, boys and girls under-15 and under-13 singles. Two players from each category will enter the main round.

Ladies, boys and girls’ under-11 and under-9 will vie for honours in the main rounds directly.

The qualifiers conclude on Monday followed by the main rounds that will be played at Union Club.

Results:Men’s singles:Qualifying round one: Salman Ahmed bt Saeed Azhar 6-3, 6-4.

Juniors’ under-17 singles:Qualifying round one: Neha Khan bt Shahmir Faisal 6-1, 7-6(3); Aqeel Shabbir bt M. Salman 6-1, 6-0.Qualifying round two: Aun Ahmed bt Rabiuddin 6-0, 6-2.

Boys and girls under-15 singles:Qualifying round one: Aun Ahmed bt Waniya Khan 6-0, 6-0; Dawar Rehan bt M. Maaz Qadir 6-2, 6-0.Boys and girls under-13 singles:Qualifying round one: Haniya Naveed bt Saeed Hussain 6-3, 6-0; Naveed Vilani bt Muneeb Qadir 7-5, 6-4.

Sunday’s fixtures:Qualifying round matches start at 9am.
