Murder `resolved` in 24 hours: Man, accomplice held for killing business partner

LAHORE, May 26: Faisal Town police on Thursday claimed to have resolved within 24 hours the blind murder of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in Model Town Extension's P-Block on Wednesday, arresting two suspects and recovering an axe allegedly used in the crime from their possession.

Model Town SP Operations Malik Muhammad Awais told Dawn a police team led by the Faisal Town SHO traced the whereabouts of the suspects -- Niamat Ali and Khalid Ali -- who axed Akram Ameen of Deepalpur to death. His body was spotted wrapped in a plastic sack.

The SP said police took Niamat Ali in custody after noticing his strange behaviour as he was accompanying the victim's family when police visited their house.

He said during investigation Niamat confessed killing his business partner Akram. The accused told investigators that he had developed relations with the wife of Akram who got wind of the affair. The accused also said that Akram would often admonish his wife over the issue.

Niamat told the police that to keep the affair secret he decided to kill Akram and convinced Khalid, a watchman at a house in F-Block, Model Town, to assist him in the crime.

The SP said the suspects confessed to killing Akram, who was a painter, in Mochipura, Township. They threw the body in Model Town Extension.

The suspects were handed over to the investigation police for further action.

GANG: Kot Lakhpat police claim to have arrested two members of a gang involved in street crime and recovered cash, two cell phones and illegal weapons from them.

The accused, Rashid and Yahya, who confessed involvement in eight street crimes, were captured from a Kot Lakhpat locality, the police said.

Allegedly, they also shot at and wounded several people for resisting street robberies.
