Two car-lifters held after exchange of fire

CHARSADDA, May 24: Police claimed here on Tuesday to have arrested two car-lifters after exchange of fire and recovered a stolen car and arms from their possession.

Police said that they signalled a car bearing registration number MU-212 Islamabad to stop on Mardan-Charsadda Road near Station Korona. However, the driver sped away, they said, adding that they exchanged fire with the two persons riding the car and arrested them after a brief encounter.

The arrested persons turned out to be car snatchers. They were shifted to police station fro interrogation.

The alleged car-lifters were identified as Wasim, a resident of Azakhel, and Muazam of Dir presently residing in Charsadda. Police also recovered two pistols from their possession.

Meanwhile, Islamic Relief Organisation (IRO) distributed 120 goats among flood-affected families from different areas of the district on Tuesday.

In this connection a function was held Agra union council wherein IRO programme manager Engineer Farooq Khan, Fayaz Khan, Omar Zaman and Sarfaraz distributed 120 goats among 60 affected families.

Mr Farooq said that they had distributed more than 2,400 hens, 754 goats and other items among affected people to help them earn their livelihood. He said the construction of houses and bathrooms was also underway in the district.

The organisation with support of local administration and active participation of locals has started relief activities in several villages including Paraw Korona, Darab Kalli, Agra Upper, Agra Lower, Manzori and Loda.
