Two killed on road

NOWSHERA, May 21: Two people were killed while four others sustained injuries when a car fell into a ravine near Ziarat Kaka Sahib here on Saturday.

Police said a car (RDL 6954) was going to Hakim Abad from Ziarat Kaka Sahib when the driver lost control over the vehicle at a sharp turn as a result the vehicle ended up in a ravine, killing a woman, Sarwat Bibi, on the spot and injuring five others. The injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital where driver Hafeezur Rehman died. The Nowshera Kalan police registered case and started investigation. —Correspondent

Arms, drugs seized

PESHAWAR, May 21: The city police have arrested eight proclaimed offenders, two woman smugglers and recovered arms and drugs from them.

The city police recovered 18kg hashish from secret cavities of a vehicle intercepted in the jurisdiction of Faqeer Abad police station. The smugglers managed to flee from the scene.

Meanwhile, Sirband police nabbed two woman smugglers, Sakeena and Maryum, and recovered 10kg hashish from them.

The police also arrested eight proclaimed offenders identified as Naseeb, Qadir, Shamshad, Ayaz, Akhtar Shah, Saeed Shah, Sikandar Shah and Irfan, from different areas of the city. The police also recovered 10 pistols, six Kalashnikovs, four guns, 25 magazines and hundreds of cartridges from them.—APP

Drone attacks

SWABI, May 21: The Jamaat-i-Islami has alleged the drone attacks in the tribal areas were being carried out with the consent of the government.

Addressing party workers in various localities here on Saturday, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, provincial naib amir of the party and other leaders said the rulers deceived the people by saying one thing and doing the other.

Mr Mushtaq said appeasement policy of the government had resulted in violation of the country’s sovereignty and integrity by the American forces.

He welcomed the efforts to improve relations with China because he maintained that Beijing was ‘our faithful friend and its leaders always extended cooperation to Pakistan at critical times’.

Mohammad Usman, former MNA, said the country had been passing through a critical stage and needed unity to foil designs of anti-state elements. —Correspondent

Training workshop

PESHAWAR, May 21: A three-day training workshop to enhance knowledge of ophthalmic technicians working in Fata regarding prevention and management of common eye problems concluded here on Saturday. It was conducted by comprehensive eye care services Fata.

The participants included ophthalmic technicians and operation theatre assistants working in ophthalmology units in Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, North Waziristan and Orakzai Agencies. Lectures were delivered about the utilisation of diagnostic instruments in OPD, diagnosis of common eye problems and prevention of communicable eye disease.

The director health services Fata thanked the participants for providing their services in such circumstances when the law and order was not satisfactory. He suggested that such fruitful training sessions must be held on tri-monthly basis to help eradicate blindness and reduce eye morbidity in Fata.—APP
