Muttahida,MQM-H workers shot dead

KARACHI, May 16: A young activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday, police said.

They said 23-year-old Danish Ayaz was targeted in Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s block 4 by armed motorcyclists when he was walking home in the same vicinity.

“Two men on a motorbike spotted the victim near Crown Plaza, a residential project in the area,” said Inspector Asif Jakhrani, the SHO of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station. “One of the riders got off the motorbike and fired at Danish, who sustained two bullet wounds in the neck and chest. The attackers ran away and the people around shifted the wounded to a nearby private hospital.”

However, he said, the youngster died during treatment and the body was later moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

“He was a known worker of the MQM but we are not sure about the motive behind his killing. We have found some spent bullet casings of .30-bore pistol from the crime-scene,” the area SHO added.

MQM-H man gunned down

An activist of the Afaq Ahmed-led faction of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H) was gunned down in the Shershah area on Monday, police said.

They said armed motorcyclists spotted 53-year-old Nizamuddin when he was waiting for a friend near the Pankha Hotel.

“One of the two men on a motorbike fired at him and ran away,” said an official at the Shershah police station. “He was hit by a single bullet in the head and died on the spot. The victim was the resident of the same area and a scrap dealer by profession. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.”

The police showed unawareness about the motive and the people behind the murder. However, a spokesman for the Afaq Ahmed-led faction of the MQM-H said that the victim was a former sector in charge of the party in the Shershah area and targeted due to his political affiliation.

“He was the father of five and had been living under a constant threat to his life for the past several years,” he added.

Bandits kill man upon resistance

A man was killed by armed bandits near Shaheed-i-Millat Road when he resisted a robbery bid, officials said.

They said Javed Mengal, in his late-20s, along with a woman was standing close to Shaheed-e-Millat Road after parking his car.

“According to witnesses, two men on a motorbike came and asked him to surrender cash and valuables,” said Inspector Mohsin Haider, the SHO of the Bahadurabad police station.

“The man and the robbers argued with each other and had a brief scuffle. One of the robbers opened fire and escaped.”

He said that the victim was hit by two bullets in the chest and died on the spot. The body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, he said, adding that the victim was a resident of Khyaban-i-Bukhari in DHA.
