Eight injured in clash over bid to steal cattle

SUKKUR, May 8: Eight people were injured in an exchange of fire between two groups of villagers during a reported attempt to steal cattle in the village of Suleman Shaikh near Lakhi Ghulam Shah on Sunday.

Cattle belonging to members of the Shaikh community were grazing in a field when some people of the Shar community allegedly tried to take them away.

This led to the exchange of fire during which Fida Hussain, Urs, Afshaan, Zameer, Mohammad Hayat, Daulat and Nizam Shar and Manthar Shar were injured.

However, the assailants succeeded in herding away 15 head of cattle.

Police reached the area and detained five injured people and took them to hospital.

The incident caused unrest in the area and the Shaikh community was preparing to take revenge.

Raid : A heavy police contingent from Sukkur and Shikarpur raided the village of Foosaabad near Rustam on Sunday and took 10 suspects into custody.

According to police sources, the raid was carried out on information about presence of Nazeer Machi, a wanted criminal, in the village.

During the operation, an exchange of fire took place between police and Nazeer Machi who later managed to escape.

Police have arrested Waris Dino, Nabi Bux, Ali Hyder Machi and seven other suspects.

Villagers have criticised the way the raid was carried out and said that police damaged their property and valuables.
