LDA sacks junior clerk over corruption

LAHORE, May 3: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday dismissed a junior clerk for allegedly preparing forged property documents and selling plots in Johar Town.

According to a spokesman, LDA Director (administration) Shahid Fareed dismissed Rana Abdul Naeem under the Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2006, after he was found guilty of selling plots to people on fake documents.

“The official also misplaced the original property file of Johar Town and Ajodhiapur village bearing No.JT/AP/1181-F in order to conceal his corruption by preparing a duplicate file without having certified copies of the documents and fulfillment of requisite formalities,” the spokesman said.

He said the authority directed Shahid Fareed, a director, to probe into the matter. The accused official was given an opportunity of personal hearing. “He also admitted to his guilt,” the spokesperson said.

RECOVERY: The LDA’s recovery directorate collected a sum of Rs173.5 million as commercialisation fee in April.

According to Muhammad Ali, director (recovery), the collection was 433 per cent more than the target amount of Rs40 million.

He said special teams had been formed to collect dues from Gulberg, Garden Town, Muslim Town and Allama Iqbal Town areas.

“Recovery of such a big amount is an encouraging sign under the prevailing conditions,” he said.

HAJ DRAW: Six LDA officials will perform Haj this year and director-general Abdul Jabbar Shaheen announced their names after a balloting on Tuesday.

Those who will proceed to Haj include Muhammad Ali, Ghulam Mustafa, Kashif Durrani, Shahid Ali Khan, Muhammad Akbar and Khalid Munir.
