4 policemen die in attack on Nato tankers

ATTOCK, May 1: Four policemen were killed when terrorists opened fire on 11 oil tankers carrying supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan and a police van escorting them near Dulian Chowk in Pindigheb on Sunday.

Eight of the tankers caught fire and exploded at about 9.45pm. Three tankers were partially damaged, police sources said.

The policemen killed in the attack were identified as Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ramzan, Head Constable Munir Ahmed and Constables Asif Mehmood and Zafar Iqbal.

The injured and bodies of the deceased were taken to Pindigheb tehsil headquarters hospital. Efforts were under way to control the fire spreading from the tankers to the nearby buildings when this report was filed.
