KARACHI, April 25: The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts of Karachi on Monday remanded seven activists of the proscribed Hizbut Tahrir in jail custody for holding an anti-government rally.Police detained the activists of the banned organisation from the Regal intersection on April 18 when they were holding a protest rally against the government.

Following the expiry of their physical remand the police produced the suspects before administrative judge Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court on Monday.

The court sent the suspects to prison on judicial remand till April 29 and directed the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet on next hearing.

The Preedy police booked the suspects under Section 11-W (printing, publishing or disseminating any material to incite hatred or giving projection to any person convicted for a terrorist act or any proscribed organization or an organization placed under observation or anyone concerned in terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Meanwhile, a suspect on Monday recorded his confessional statement before a court in the murder case of a teenage girl.

Kaleem Ahmed has been accused of strangling a 14-year-old girl to death when she resisted his attempt to rape her within the remit of the Eidgah police station on April 18.

The investigation officer on Monday produced the suspect before a judicial magistrate (south) who recorded the statement of the suspect under section 164 of the criminal procedure code in which he confessed to having killed the girl.

The court sent the suspect in jail custody on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet.

A case was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police arrested the accused on April 21.
