GHALANAI, April 24: A woman was killed when a stray shell hit a house in the Safi Tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Sunday.

Residents said that the shell hit the house of Karim Khan in the Kamalkhel village of Kandahari area of Safi Tehsil, killing his wife. It could not be ascertained from where the shell had been fired.

Meanwhile, gunship helicopters continued to shell suspected positions in the Sheikh Baba area of Safi Tehsil on Sunday.

No information of casualties was received.

In another development, the political administration arrested five accused on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping and killing of a tribal elder here on Sunday.

Unidentified men had kidnapped the victim, Sher Mohammad, on Friday.
