Constable shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI, Apr 23: Armed men killed a police constable here on Saturday night and took away his official gun.

According to officials, 35-year-old Muhammad Liaquat was returning to the Saeedabad police station on a bike after performing duty at an area fuel station.

“Two men on a motorcycle intercepted the constable near a school,” said an official at the Saeedabad police station. “One of them got off the bike and fired a single shot at his head. He died on the spot. The attackers sped away with the victim's sub-machine gun.”

In a separate incident, a lawyer associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-N's Lawyers Forum was injured in a attack near his home in Gulshan-i-Jamal area.

The area police said 46-year-old Rana Shamshad was walking to his home when he was attacked by armed men on a bike. “He was hit by four bullets,” said an official at the Sharea Fasial police station. He was taken to a private hospital on the Stadium Road.

The PML-N Lawyers Forum condemned the attack. “There is no personal enmity involved in the incident. It reflects the persistent security threat to the lawyers that should be addressed by law-enforcement agencies,” forum's president Arshad Jadoon said.
