Woman attempts suicide outside SP office

LAHORE, April 21: A woman swallowed pills in an attempt to commit suicide outside the office of the Iqbal Town SP (operations) in Muslim Town after failing to get a case registered against her husband on Thursday.

Kanwal Shahzad hit her head against a pole when the Muslim Town police reportedly did not entertain her request to register a case against her husband. She said she had a scuffle with her husband. A Rescue 1122 ambulance ferried her to a nearby hospital as police did not try to stop her from taking pills.

A police official said a case had been registered on the complaint of the protesting woman.

Before approaching the police station, he said, the woman went to her room, resorted to aerial firing and also tried to burn herself.

He said strained relations with her husband had forced Kanwal to attempt suicide.

Iqbal Town SP (operations) Romail Akram did not respond to the phone calls.

MYSTERIOUS DEATH: A 15-year-old girl was strangled allegedly by her elder brother following a domestic dispute in Shibli Town of Sanda on Thursday.

Quoting Malik Mushtaq, police said his son Tahir strangled his sister Sadia over a trifle.

Tahir, he said, initially gave the murder incident colouring of natural death.

Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case against the absconder.

PROTEST: Family members of a kidnapped man lodged a protest against Sanda police and blocked Double Sarkan by burning tyres on Thursday. The protesters alleged that the police did not make any serious effort to trace the whereabouts of Muhammad Kashif.
