Pindi Bhattian exam probe report likely today

LAHORE, April 13: A fact-finding committee formed by Punjab University controller of examination Prof Dr Liaquat Ali to probe into the incident of Pindi Bhattian examination centre is expected to present its detailed investigation report to the vice-chancellor on Thursday (today). The PU committee, led by additional controller of examinations had four deputy controllers of examinations as its members.

It is learnt that some 103 candidates did not appear in their English paper in the BA/BSc examinations as, the PU administration claims, the controller of examinations learnt about the “booti mafia” and reached with its two monitoring squads as well as police at the examination centre set up at Government Boys Degree College, Pindi Bhattian, Hafizabad.

According to Prof Ali, the candidates were going to employ an “innovative technique” to cheat and get through the examination.

Overall 142 candidates were supposed to appear at the examination centre but only 39 candidates came to take their English paper, while “others did not come while seeing university squads and police deployment” outside the examination centre.

Prof Ali also claimed that neither any university employee nor the examination centre superintendent or the resident inspector was involved in the “foul play that was yet to take place”.

However, sources in the university claimed that the PU administration was trying to hush up the case as it did not get Sajjad Munawar arrested, who had allegedly got a Lahore resident candidate centre set up at the Government Boys Degree College, Pindi Bhattian.

A candidate, Hasan, held from the examination centre had reportedly recorded his alleged statement that Sajjad Munawar had arranged his centre in Pindi Bhattian after charging around Rs150,000.

Another press release issued by the PU stated that Sajjad Munawar, who introduces himself as a lawyer, had nothing to do with the university.

RESULTS: The PU examinations department on Wednesday declared the results of MS in clinical psychology, semester system, session 2008-2010.

GOOD FRIDAY: The Christian staff of the Punjab University will observe a holiday on April 22 on account of Good Friday.
