Killed on roadTAXILA, April 11: A man was killed in a road accident in Wah Cantonment on Monday. Police said Mumraiz Khan was crossing the G.T. Road when a speedy vehicle hit him and fled. The injured was taken to a local hospital where he died. —Correspondent

Robbers loot bankRAWALPINDI, April 11: In a daring heist, two gunmen took away Rs3.37 million from a branch of Habib Bank in Ganjmandi on Monday.

Arshad Hussain Rizvi, the manager of Mohanpura branch, told police that the two gunmen entered the bank after overpowering the security guard. “They thrashed the security guard and snatched his gun. They threatened to kill us,” he said.

The robbers grabbed Rs3.37 million and escaped after locking the staff and the people present in the bank in the strong room.

SSP Operation Yasin Farooq said the police had asked banks’ managements to take appropriate security measures and keep the alarms and CCTV cameras functioning but added that their advice was often ignored. —Staff Reporter

SHO found with fake certificateRAWALPINDI, April 11: The Station House Officer (SHO) of Women Police Station, Irum Khanum, was suspended on Monday for holding fake certificate of Intermediate.

Her certificate was sent to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, for verification. The board termed it ‘bogus’. Belonging to Lahore, she had been recruited on a sports seat.

SSP Operation Yasin Farooq confirmed that SHO Khanum had been suspended for holding fake educational certificate. “We are considering registering a case against her,” he said. —Staff Reporter

Vehicle snatchedATTOCK, April 11: Two armed robbers snatched a pickup and cash from its driver in a highway robbery near Ghorghusti village of Hazro Police station.

Police sources said driver Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Rawalpindi, reported to Hazro Police station that he was on way to Terballah from Rawalpindi along with his customer Afzal Khan on Sunday evening.

When they reached near Ghorghusti village of Hazro Police station, two armed persons came in a car and intercepted him and snatched his vehicle, their mobile phones and Rs45,000 and fled. —Correspondent

Entrepreneur weekISLAMABAD, April 11: The National University of Modern Languages (Numl) arranged an entrepreneur week under the supervision of Department of Management Sciences and Information Technology here Monday to provide students an opportunity to learn business tactics.

Beggars a nuisanceISLAMABAD, April 11: The beggars are roaming freely in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, causing inconvenience to residents.

The residents of the twin cities have complained that the city administration has failed to tackle this public nuisance and controlling beggar's mafia has become a real challenge.

These beggars, who are actually fraudsters, can be seen every where fleecing money from people by using different techniques in Saddar, Mall Road, Raja Bazzar, Melody Food Street, Abpara, Karachi Company, Pirwadhai, at different intersections and traffic signals.

Majority of beggars operating in twin cities are women, young girls holding infants, disabled children and old men who keep irritating the commuters and visitors to restaurants and markets. Authorities concerned seem to be least interested in controlling the situation which was going from bad to worst. —APP
