SWABI, April 6: Police seized an abandoned container carrying spare parts of a Cessna aircraft here on Wednesday.

The Swabi police said that unknown accused had snatched the container from its driver, Mohibullah, at gunpoint in the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station, Peshawar, on Tuesday night after tying his hands and legs.

They said that the accused drove the snatched vehicle through Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan and entered Swabi district because the police did not know about the snatching incident.

District police officer Mohammad Ijaz Khan told this correspondent that the container (C-1512) was parked on the roadside and there was nobody guarding it.

“I think the miscreants searched the container before leaving it on a roadside,” the DPO said and added that later they informed the Chamkani police, who drove the container to Peshawar.

CLINICS SEALED: District Health Officer Dr Gul Mohammad sealed six clinics of Afghan doctors in different areas of Swabi on Wednesday because they were not registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC).

Sources said that health officials came to know that some Afghan doctors working in refugee camps at Gohati and Gandaf had established their clinics in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate zone and other areas.

They said that Afghan doctors did not heed to the warnings from the health officials to limit their activities to the camps.

The sources said that one Afghan doctor Asadullah was running Mashal Children Centre in Swabi; Dr Abdul Sattar and Dr Jamal Nasir had set up clinics in Topi main bazaar; Dr Tehsil Khan and Dr Abbas Shinwari in Gadoon estate areas and another doctor, whose name could not be ascertained, in Gandaf. The DHO sealed all the clinics and sent the names of the doctors to the director general health for further action.

When contacted, the DHO said that these doctors were not registered with the PM&DC, which was essential for medical practice in any part of the country.PEOPLE'S WELFARE: Provincial ministers Sardar Hussain Babak and Zar Shaid Khan said here on Wednesday that the ANP-led government had focused on the people's welfare by launching a number of development projects in the province.

They were speaking at a function organised to welcome Muhammad Naeem, who rejoined the ANP. Mr Naeem had left the ANP in protest in 1997 and founded the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz (SQM).

Azam Hoti, ANP senior leader who was scheduled to be chief guest on the occasion, could not attend the gathering for unknown reasons.
