MANSEHRA, April 5: Police on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly received Rs2 million from the people on the pretext to provide them Rs300,000 each under the Wasilla-i-Haq scheme of the Benazir Income Support Programme.

Last week, the Mansehra police had lodged FIR against Mubashir Ahmad and his mother Kausar Parveen on a complaint by Habibullah, Mohammad Raheem and Nasreen Bibi.

The complainants alleged the accused had received Rs2 million from a number of people to include their names in the scheme. Both the accused had got the bail by a local court.

On Tuesday, the additional sessions judge cancelled the pre-arrest bail of Mubashir Ahmad and handed him over to the police on one day remand.

BOYCOTT: The lawyer's fraternity on Tuesday boycotted the court proceedings against the killing of their colleague and former Haripur tehsil nazim Iftikhar Khan.

The lawyers demanded immediate arrest of the killers. A meeting was also held to condemn the killing of Mr Iftikhar.

Speaking on the occasion the president of district bar association Naseem Khan and others said the killers should immediately be arrested otherwise the lawyers fraternity would expand the scope of the agitation to entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The lawyers also prayed for the departed soul of the deceased.

TIMBER SEIZED: The district administration of Torghar on Tuesday seized over 1,800 beams of high quality timber, which was being smuggled to other parts of the country by boats via Indus River.

“We have seized over 1,800 beams of high quality timber which was being smuggled to Haripur from Thakot and then to the markets in other parts,” said Fareed Khan, the district coordination officer Torghar, while talking to reporters. It is the first action taken by the district administration of the newly created district.

Fareed Khan said on a tip-off the personnel of the Torghar levies and officials of the forest department were deputed at the Kunhar area alongside the Indus River who intercepted the ferries and seized the timber.
