‘500 offenders held in a month’

LAHORE, April 5: Sheikhupura Region police claim to have arrested 500 proclaimed offenders and more than 300 court absconders in the last month during a campaign against criminals, says a press release issued on Tuesday.Regional Police Officer Rai Altaf Hussain presided over a meeting of senior police officers to review law and order situation in the region. He was told at the meeting that Sheikhupura Region police launched a campaign to control crime.

The meeting was told that police arrested proclaimed offenders and court absconders and seized from them dozens of stolen or snatched cars, motorcycles and cattle.

Similarly, the RPO was told the police arrested 489 criminals during a campaign against illegal weapons and seized 216, pistols, 11 Kalashnikovs, 34 rifles, 74 guns and 69 revolvers.

The police arrested 351 drug peddlers and seized from them 116kg hashish, 5kg opium, 2kg heroin and 6,948 bottles of liquor.
