Imambargah caretaker shot dead

KARACHI, March 30: The custodian of an Imambargah was killed in a Landhi area on Wednesday, police said.They added that 55-year-old Mauj Ali was targeted while he was buying cigarettes from a cabin in the Sharafi Goth area of Landhi.

“Two men riding a motorbike came close to him and one of them after getting off the motorbike fired multiple shots at him,” said SP Nasir Aftab of the Landhi Town.

“He sustained three gunshot wounds and died on the spot.”

The SP said that the body was later moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

He added the victim was serving as the custodian of the Imambargah in the area and lived alone in the locality. “He originally hailed from Jhelum district of Punjab. The motive behind the killing is not clear though one can’t rule out sectarian grounds.”
