Man defrauding people of Rs28m in NAB custody

PESHAWAR, March 29: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has arrested an accused Sirajuddin, who had looted Rs28 million from people here through fraudulent prize bonds business four years ago.“The accused will now be produced before the Accountability Court for securing his physical remand,” the NAB said in a statement on Tuesday. It said that following committing the fraud the accused had fled to Sialkot and started job in a factory.

The NAB said that the accused was a retired security guard of State Bank in Peshawar and a resident of TV Colony and had been absconding for over four years.

It stated that in 2006 the bureau received complaints of 15 people whom collectively the accused had deprived of Rs10.785 million. Taking action on the complaints, the NAB had filed a reference against Mr Siraj in the Accountability Court Peshawar in July 2006.

Sensing gravity of the situation, the accused had absconded with the looted money to avoid arrest. Meanwhile, 12 more people lodged complaints against Mr Siraj that the man had deprived them of Rs17.325 million. After collecting the evidence, the bureau filed a supplementary reference against the accused in April 2007.
