SMS: a piece of advice
THIS is apropos of Jibran Ali Khan’s letter ‘SIMs: security concerns’ (March 17). The problem of fake mobile phone prize schemes is on the rise these days. The modus operandi of these thugs is that they send SMS announcing the prize to thousands of subscribers using a same number of a series. Then people lose by sending money to these perpetrators through ‘easy load’ after being lured by the message. I would advise subscribers to stop paying attention to such SMS.
Instead, whoever receives such an SMS should lodge a complaint against the number with the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee or the cellphone network company which the subscriber is using.
