Man`s killing sparks violent protest in Mansehra

MANSEHRA, March 21: Killing of a man and injuring of another by their rivals on Monday sparked violent protests with angry people set on fire shops and vehicles and blocked the Mansehra-Oghi road for over six hours. The shooting took place in Khaki area.

The killing is result a rivalry between two groups of transporters led by Mohammad Sabir and Mohammad Saeed over ownership of a wagon stand in Khaki for last many years. Both the groups have also clashed in past in which many people were injured.

On Monday the rival parties starting firing at each other after men from one group were now allowed to pass from the area by their opponents.

Members of Mohammad Sabir-led group opened heavy fire on Mohammad Saeed and his accomplice Khusrung injuring them critically.

They were taken to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital where Mohammad Saeed succumbed to injuries. Mohammad Sabir group fled the scene after the incident. Enraged people placed the body on the Oghi-Mansehra road and blocked it for over six hours. Markets were also shut for several hours.

The angry people also set on fire three vehicles, three shops, hotels and booking office of the wagon stand.

The District Police Officer Sohail Khalid along with heavy contingents of police reached the spot.

He was able to convince the protesters to life the blockade of the road but after six hours of continuous efforts.

The DPO assured the relatives of the victim that the culprits would be arrested and taken to task, saying, “Law is supreme and nobody is above the law.”
