Three currency dealers held

GUJRANWALA, March 15: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested three illegal currency dealers and seized a hefty amount from their possession.

Reports said on the direction of Punjab FIA director Inam Ghani, a team raided Bano Bazaar, Sialkot, and arrested Soney Monay currency exchange owners Adnan and Muhammad Aslam.

Later, they also apprehended Tanveer Husain of Noble Traders in another raid.

The team recovered Rs900,000 in cash, 573 Euros, 20,000 Japanese Yen, 8,102 US dollars, 2,710 Yemeni Riyal, 2,045 Pounds, 12,900 Norway and Korean dollars, 13,485 UAE Dinars and 800 Kuwaiti Dinars from their possession.

A number of dealers ran away after locking their outlets when they heard of crackdown.

A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is under way. DEATH AWARDED:

A sessions court on Tuesday handed down death sentence to three accused Liaquat, Rifaqat and Zahid along with a fine of Rs100,000 each in a murder case.

They will have to undergo six-month additional imprisonment in case of non-payment of fine.

The court acquitted five co-accused Farhan Ali, Muhammad Ashraf, Shaukat Ali, Muhammad Iqbal, and Saifullah by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution convicts had stabbed to death Insaf Ali over an old enmity at Jhamwala Ahmednagar in February last year.

COMPENSATION:  Rescue 1122 has launched firefighting service in about 24 districts of Punjab while its workers will undergo international standard refresher courses.
