Killer gets life term, fine

LAHORE, Feb 28: An additional district and sessions judge on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a murder accused and acquitted two others.

The court also ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs100,000 to deceased's heirs or serve six-month additional imprisonment in case of non-payment.

Anjum along with his accomplices Ghafoor Husain and Muhammad Ashfaq had killed Muhammad Tauseef for honour in August 1999 for harassing his sister in Gujjarpura locality. The police had registered a murder case (No 218/99) against them.

On Monday, the court after hearing final arguments awarded life imprisonment to Anjum and acquitted Ashfaq and Ghafoor by giving them the benefit of the doubt. WARRANTS:

The consumer court on Monday issued bailable warrants for arresting by March 10 the managing-director, general-manager and a representative of a franchise telecom outlet for not appearing before the court in a suit seeking damages of Rs200,000 for allegedly providing defective services.

Complainant Afzal submitted that he visited a cellular company franchise situated at 35-B Wahdat Road on Feb 12, 2010, and paid amount for a post-paid package, including activation charges.

He said salesman Kaif received the payment stating that the SIM would be activated next day. He said as the SIM was not activated as per commitment he visited the office several times but to no avail.
