Members of warring families held, arms seized

TIMERGARA, Feb 17: The police on Thursday arrested members of two warring families and seized arms and ammunitions from them.The Station House Officer of Khall police station Badshah Hazrat, while talking to this reporter, said that members of two rival groups had taken positions at Saligram and were exchanging fire. He said police reached the spot, stopped the fire and arrested key figures from both sides.

The SHO said an RPG-7, 2 Kalashnikovs, a pistol, a rifle and 200 cartridges were recovered from one party while 2 Kalashnikovs, a 7.62 bore rifle, a gun and 150 cartridges from the other party.

Residents said that Fazal Raziq and Zahid families had a land dispute that took an ugly shape when armed men from both sides took positions against each other on Wednesday and started firing. Police arrested key figures from both sides and registered a case, they added.

COMPENSATION DEMAND: Residents of Jandol on Thursday demanded of the government to pay compensation to the family whose three members were killed when roof of their house collapsed in rains at Arif Kalay the other day.

Talking to journalists they said four others were injured in the incident, adding, so far no one from the government had contacted the family.

They said the villagers removed rubble of the damaged house on their own, adding, the family was poor and deserved government help. They also demanded of the district administration to contact concerned authorities in writing so that the poor family could get compensation.

Meanwhile, residents of Shah Toot Toormand Darra also demanded of the government to pay compensation to Jalat Khan whose house was collapsed during rains.

SPORTS DAY: The vice-chancellor of the University of Malakand (UoM) says educating children is a sacred cause and we must feel fortunate that being teachers we have been entrusted with this responsibility.

He was speaking at a function held the other day at the constituent school and college of the university on the occasion of Annual Sports Day. “I assure you that the UoM shall leave no stone unturned to provide you with state-of-the-art lab equipment and sports facilities for maximising your output,” he said.

Teachers and a large number of students also participated in the function. Earlier, trophies and cash prizes were distributed among the distinctive position holders.
