Re-employed officials sacked

PESHAWAR, Feb 10: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sacked 14 senior re-employed officers, including brothers of two influential politicians from the ruling Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party, on the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The establishment department has sent a compliance report to the attorney general of Pakistan, notifying the immediate termination of 14 officials, re-employed after retirement on political grounds in violation of rules.

An eight-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, while hearing Haj corruption case had on Jan 28 observed that re-employment of retired officers on senior posts was a violation of law.

Complying with the court’s directives re-employment of the contract officials was reviewed and subsequently 14 of them got fired, an official told Dawn.

The establishment department terminated the services of Peshawar SP Mohammad Rafique Khan, Mardan DPO Waqif Khan, Dir Lower DPO Mumtaz Zarin, DSP Jehanzeb Khan, and Governor’s Inspection Team chairman Brig (retired) Saleem Ashraf.

Likewise, Dr Salar Khan, a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Service Tribunal, has also been fired from the service. Dr Khan is the brother of ANP leader Senator Zahid Khan.

The health department issued termination order of Muzaffar Khan, who was re-employed few months ago as chairman of Health Regulatory Authority. He is the brother of PPP MPA Zamin Khan.

Similarly, the labour department issued termination orders of Workers Welfare Board Secretary Prof Mohammad Tariq Awan, Assistant Director Administration Workers Welfare Board Anwar Majeed, Assistant Secretary Workers Children Education Board Mukarram Khan and Director General Employees Social Security Institution Syed Liaqat Ali Shah.

The elementary and secondary education department terminated the contracts of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar Chairman Farhad Jan, Kohat BISE Chairman Khan Mohammad Khalil and Swat BISE Secretary Dr Usman Ali.
