ASI shot dead in New Karachi

KARACHI, Feb 7: A policeman was gunned down inside his residence in New Karachi on Monday, officials said.

They said at least four armed men broke into the house of an assistant sub-inspector of the police, 35-year-old Yasin Junejo, in Sector 7-A, Bilal Colony of New Karachi Town an hour before sunrise.

“The neighbours heard a single shot before some of them saw four people fleeing on three motorbikes,” said Sub-Inspector Muzammil Hasan, the SHO of the Sir Syed police station.

“The victim was posted at the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station and living alone in the rented house. He was married with one child.”

He said the police visited the crime-scene and examined the house and found that almost every valuable item there was intact. It did not appear to be a robbery attempt case, he said and added: “Every aspect of the case will be taken into account during the course of investigations.”

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to the victim’s family, who came here from Larkana.

Young man found shot dead

A young man was found shot dead in a drain in the Shershah area.

The police said that some sanitary workers spotted the body and informed the town administration, which later called in the police.

“The body was lying abandoned close to a storm water drain near Pankha Hotel bus stop,” said an official at the Shershah police station. “The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where the victim was identified as 27-year-old Azam alias Baba”

He said that the victim was a timekeeper at the Lea Market bus terminal and a resident of Chakiwara. He was hit by a single bullet in the head.

The official said that the family told the police that Azam did not return home on Saturday evening.
